How Ellery ADU Studio Hesperia Was Born in Hesperia
We remember the exact afternoon in late 2015. Nadia Ellery was sitting in the parking lot of a Home Depot off Main Street in Hesperia, holding a permit packet that made no sense. A homeowner had hired a designer from Los Angeles and a builder from San Bernardino, and neither had bothered to check whether the septic layout on the drawings matched the actual field conditions. The job was six months behind. The homeowner was paying rent on the main house and a mortgage on the ADU shell, and the two contractors were each pointing at the other.
That was the moment. Nadia called the parent brand, Ellery ADU Studio, which had just started operating that same year, and asked what it would take to bring their model here. Not another contractor who handed off drawings. Not another designer who never visited the site. One contract, one price, one person accountable from the first sketch to the final inspection. We opened the Hesperia branch because the High Desert needed someone who would sign their name to the whole thing.
Nadia Ellery’s Personal Connection to the ADU Trade
Nadia didn’t come to this work through architecture school or a construction family. She came through frustration, and then through fascination.
Before 2015, she was managing properties in San Bernardino County, and she kept watching the same disaster repeat itself. A homeowner would save for years, hire a draftsman for the plans, then bid the job to three builders who each saw something different in the drawings. The foundation would go in, and the plumber would notice the bathroom wall didn’t line up with the sewer stub. The inspector would fail the rough, and the designer would say the builder should have caught it. The builder would say the drawings were wrong. The homeowner would pay for both mistakes.
Nadia started showing up to job sites with a notebook and a camera. She learned to read a grading plan by standing in the dirt and matching contour lines to the slope under her boots. She learned that Oak Hills clay expands differently than Hesperia decomposed granite, and that the footing depth on a standard plan might be three inches too shallow for a winter freeze line at 3,000 feet. She spent a February morning in Running Springs watching frost heave crack a foundation that had been built to Los Angeles specs.
The smell she remembers is wet sawdust and diesel, the morning a crew in Spring Valley Lake let her frame her first wall. The feeling was the weight of a nail gun in her hand, and the sudden understanding that a building is just a series of decisions made visible. If the first decision is wrong, every one after it compounds.
What gets her out of bed is the permit approval. Not the finished photo, though those are nice. The stamped set of plans from San Bernardino County that says: this will work. Someone with authority has checked the math, and the math holds. If she weren’t doing this, she’d probably be teaching. She has the patience for it, and the belief that most people can understand their own project if someone explains it without condescension.
Meet Nadia Ellery - The Person Behind Every Job

Nadia Ellery, Owner & Founder, Ellery ADU Studio Hesperia
Nadia holds a California contractor license and has completed the full Ellery ADU Studio training in design-build integration, permit navigation, and the Haven Standard documentation system. She is not a franchise technician rotating through from another market. She lives in the High Desert, works from a desk she built herself, and knows the San Bernardino County permitting staff by first name.
On weekends, she restores vintage trailers. The patience required to straighten a sixty-year-old aluminum skin is the same patience she brings to a homeowner who needs three rounds of plan revisions to get the kitchen window facing the right direction. She believes every ADU is someone’s second chance at privacy, income, or keeping family close, and she treats the decision with the weight it deserves.
Her direct commitment: Nadia reviews every permit set before it leaves this office, and she is the person who answers when something goes wrong.
Our Promise to Hesperia Homeowners
We operate under the Haven Standard, and we mean it literally. H.A.V.E.N. is not a slogan. It is the checklist we use on every job.
Have it in writing. Clause 1 of our standard requires a fixed price, written scope, and written warranty before anyone touches your property. We learned this the hard way in our first year, when a homeowner in Phelan asked us to add a skylight mid-job and we gave a verbal number that we both remembered differently. Now every change is a signed amendment, no exceptions.
Arrive on schedule. We give a real window, a named technician, and a text when they are on the way. Not because we are unusually virtuous, but because we have been the homeowner waiting in an empty house, and we refuse to inflict that on anyone else.
Verified crews. Every professional working under our name is required to hold the license and insurance their state requires, and we keep those documents on file and available to you.
Evidence on every job. Photos of what we found, readings of what we measured, notes of what we recommended and why. You get the file. It belongs to you.
No surprises. No door upsell, no scope creep, no “while we are in here.” The price we write is the price you pay.
Our Credentials

- State-licensed contractor - required by California law for any construction project over $500, and your protection if something goes wrong. We carry this license in our own name, not borrowed from another company.
- Insured & bonded - general liability and a bond that protects your deposit. We do not display policy numbers online, but we provide them in writing before you sign.
- Years of local experience - Nadia has worked exclusively in San Bernardino County and the High Desert since this branch opened, with deep knowledge of county-specific requirements, local soil conditions, and the individual inspectors who review ADU plans.
- Strong local reputation - we are known in Hesperia, Oak Hills, and Spring Valley Lake for jobs that pass inspection the first time, and for staying in touch with homeowners after the final walkthrough.
These credentials matter because an ADU is not a quick repair. It is a year-long relationship with someone who will walk through your gate fifty times, see your family, and handle more of your money than any single purchase except your main house. You need to know who they are, what standing they have, and what happens if the relationship breaks down. License, insurance, and bond are the minimum legal floor. Our documentation system and written guarantee are what build the trust above it.
Rooted in Hesperia
Our office is in Hesperia, not because it was convenient to a freeway but because this is where Nadia chose to live and work. We have pulled permits at the San Bernardino County office on Hesperia Road more times than we can count. We know which neighborhoods in Oak Hills have septic systems that need expansion, which streets in Spring Valley Lake have HOA design review before county approval, and which Crestline lots need fire department clearance before we can break ground.
We are open Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, and Sunday 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Saturday we are closed. If you call during those hours, a live coordinator answers and connects you with our local team. We do not pretend to be from everywhere. We are from here, working to a standard that travels well.
